History of The American Legion Post 209

THE AMERICAN LEGION “FORESTVILLE VILLAGE” POST 209
Our Temporary Charter was issued on 12/1/2014. We acquired our Permanent Charter in April of 2015. Our Post mission from the start has been simple. We wanted to go back to basics and respresent this very honorable veterans organization the best we can. To educate the community on the true meaning and mission of this great organization. We are the worlds largest war time veterans organization (VSO) followed very closely by the VFW. Our motto is “Veterans Still Serving America “. We as a full Legion Family Post (Legion, Auxiliary, Sons of The American Legion and Legion Riders), have accomplished a great deal in the short time that we have been in existence in Forestville. Our membership continues to grow along with our pride as members of this Legion Family. Below is a list of some of our accomplishments, at Post 209, that reinforces our commitment to our community and our fellow Veterans and their families.

– annual Fishing Derby at Rockwell Park in May.

– annual 4 Chaplains Ceremony in February

– annual domestic violence suicide awareness program held at Rockwell Park to help support Prudence Crandall and Saint and Saint De Paul

-annual Christmas caroling at local assisted living facilities.

– sponsor a high school boy and girl Annually for Boys & Girls State.

– every September, for a night, we run bingo for our Veterans at the Rocky Hill Veterans Hospital.

– We adopt a family for the holidays and bring a little joy to their lives.

– Donate turkeys to those in need for the holidays.- We donate to various Veterans causes though out the year.

– The Forestville Memorial Day Parade now falls under the umbrella of Post 209.

– We have also included local Boys and Girls Scout Troops in our activities

-we have meetings with the veterans and residence at Village Green convalescent home in Forestville Connecticut. The members of post 209 take great pride meeting fellow veterans We singing, listening to their stories getting involved with the veterans from the community when they need us the most. We Supply them with playing cards, board games, Word puzzles and just someone to talk to.

– we are commitment to serve as Veterans and Veterans family members. We do 2 to 3 Blood Drive every month so we can help to help support everyone by giving them a chance to live.No better way to say you care then to give a part of you so other can live .

We are very proud of what we have accomplished and are looking to the future with great enthusiasm and continued commitment to the community and our Veterans!!  As a charter member and the Commander of the Post I ask for your support.

I ask that you join us and share this enthusiasm and pride! If you are a Veteran, I ask for your membership!

As I stated we are continuing to grow but we still need your support as a member. We are not asking that you donate all your time. Your membership alone is a great deal of support to this Post and this organization. Of course, if you could spare an hour or two a month that would certainly be rewarding for you and would help with our mission.

There are many benefits associated with your membership. If you have a family member who is a Veteran please consider a membership as a Christmas, Birthday or Anniversary present. 40 dollars annual dues, a simple application and a copy of their DD214 is all that is needed.

If you are currently a member of The American Legion and would like to transfer to Post 209 it is a very simple process and would take literally a minute of your time. The Auxiliary and Sons are looking for your support and membership!

Get involved today and help us serve our community and our Veterans causes!! For more information on joining The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary, The Sons of The American Legion or The Legion Riders.
